The other thing is that these FREE / DONATION instruments by Pettinhouse and others come with all the samples in.

Kontakt is surely a good piece of software and i have thought about buying it a couple of times now but i just don't know if its $500 good ) But like i said i may be in the minority. I may be in the minority but i think this type of practice only serves to get people off side with the company and less likely to purchase any of the instruments they make specifically for the Kontakt player.

Sure, i know they have been built in the full version of kontakt using scripting etc but still, if I want to build a sample instrument in Kontakt and give it away to fellow musicians for free or donation basis, why should they then have to go out and pay ( $500 here in Australia ) for the full version of Kontakt just to be able to use it ? when the Kontakt player is capable of playing it but has been crippled.īut i guess this is just the business model of most companies, dangle the carrot hope we will bite. Its not like there being ripped off or loosing any money if people were able to use these instruments in the Kontakt player. Yeah, i discovered this just last week myself, it seems crazy that Native Instruments don't allow these third party FREE instruments to be used in the Kontakt player. Is this assumption correct? Does this really mean that with the free Kontakt 4 Player, I will not be allowed to play free third party samples that themselves do not require activation (like Steven Slate Drums does)? Since the Pettinhouse stuff does not require Activation (and there seems to be no way to activate it), my current working hypothesis is that the Pettinhouse stuff is classed as "Self-made instruments", which, according to the manual, will be allowed to play for 15 minutes. This distinguishes between "Library, activated", "Library, not activated" and "Self-made instruments".

I went to the manual which has a section "4.2 Library Demo Mode".

Steven Slate Drums) have been working fine for weeks. There is no entry for the Pettinhouse stuff. When I go to the licensing application, I am told that everything (including, of course, the Kontakt Player) has been licensed. Do you want to activate the library now using Service Center? Therefore you can only use it in demo mode.

What I would have expected, but am not getting, is Do you want to activate Kontakt now using Service Center?" Strangely, after 15 minutes the samples go into demo mode.Įven more strange, the message I am getting is I downloaded "DirectGuitar 2.0 FREE for NI Kontakt" and installed the files (an *.nkm multi file plus samples) where other files from my Kontakt 4 Player (version 4.0.4) reside. On this site, there are several free (sort of) libraries for Kontakt.

Just when I thought that Native Instruments' licensing methods are a little smarter than Steinberg's, along comes this:Ī recent post on this forum recommended a trip to.
